VANCOUVER (NEWS1130] – A new poll conducted for TransLink is listing which SkyTrain stations people think are the scariest. Surrey Central station comes out on top, as the worst.
More than 20% of people surveyed say Surrey Central is where they have the most concern about their security.
Ken Hardie with Translink thinks it’s because of the surrounding neighborhood.
“A lot of the drug trade happens there. A lot of the people who tend to congregate there patronize things like methadone clinics and other services that are there,” says Hardie.
Broadway station was the next station most frequently named as unsafe, and next was Metrotown.
A quarter of people who responded to the survey didn’t name a specific station where they felt unsafe, but said they worry about the entire system.
Hardie says the new Canada Line stations have been designed with safety in mind, with consideration into good sight-lines and lots of glass, to create transparent corridors.
